The Network of Women Authorities of the Jequetepeque Valley has officially presented its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, a fundamental instrument to strengthen collective action and establish clear guidelines for the political and social future of women in the region.
This event marks the culmination of the project “Strengthening Women Authorities of the Jequetepeque Valley”, promoted by Ayne Peru with funding from the Fons Mallorquí de Cooperació. The project has focused on capacity building, the promotion of gender equality and the reinforcement of the internal organization of the Network. The objective: to enhance the political participation of women, promote equality and consolidate the collective organization of the territory.
“Our mission is clear: to expand and strengthen the political representation of women in Jequetepeque so that they can fully exercise their rights. This Plan gives us a guide to make it a reality,” say the leaders of the Jequetepeque Valley.
The proposal encourages the participation of women from rural areas and vulnerable sectors in decision-making spaces, breaking down barriers of discrimination and exclusion. It also promotes broader articulation between local organizations and leaders, consolidating a territorial feminist movement that goes beyond elections. In addition, it is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Gender Equality, and seeks to influence the quality of democracy through a greater female presence in local governance.
The Strategic Plan defines specific actions to continue training, strengthening and making visible women leaders in the territory. Its objective is to create conditions for full, effective and transformative political participation, with a feminist, territorial and intergenerational perspective. The presentation of the same represents a decisive step to consolidate a movement of women authorities committed to the transformation of their environment, since the initiative not only gives a voice to women who already hold political positions, but also inspires and trains those who want to join the change.
“The project is an opportunity for women from rural and vulnerable areas to access political spaces and be able to act in an articulated way in the face of discrimination and gender violence”, highlighted the participants.
The Network of Women Authorities of Valle Jequetepeque was formally established in February 2023, after the participation of its president, Gabriella Núñez Montes de Oca, in the first International Meeting of Elected Women: Les Elegides, organized by the Fons Mallorquí de Cooperació. Therefore, from Les Elegides, we celebrate this step towards the political empowerment of women at the local level, and recognize the strength of networks of elected women as drivers of change, social justice and real democracy.
